Welcome to Cake Budget — a simple, slice-based budgeting tool built for individuals, freelancers, solopreneurs, and small businesses. These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of Cake Budget (the “Service”), provided by Cake Budget, LLC (“Cake Budget,” “we,” “our,” or “us”).
By using Cake Budget, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. Eligibility
You may use Cake Budget if you are capable of entering into a binding contract and comply with applicable laws. The Service is available to users of all ages, but children under 13 (or the minimum age in your jurisdiction) should not use it.
2. Your Account
- You must provide accurate information when creating your account.
- You are responsible for safeguarding your login credentials.
- You are responsible for all activity under your account.
- You must not use Cake Budget for fraudulent or unlawful purposes.
3. Free Trial and Subscriptions
- We offer a 30-day free trial for all new users.
- After the trial ends, if payment is not received, we will pause your account and stop syncing data.
- Subscriptions may be billed monthly or yearly, and renew automatically unless cancelled.
- Renewal emails are sent in advance when possible.
- Refunds are not automatic. To request one, email contact@trycakebudget.com.
4. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Scrape or extract data from the Service.
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or modify the platform.
- Use Cake Budget for illegal or deceptive financial practices.
- Engage in any kind of corporate espionage.
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules.
5. Data & Privacy
🔐 Data Storage
- We do not store your bank login information.
- We store your transaction history and budgeting data, which is encrypted using AES-256.
- We are actively working toward SOC 2 compliance.
🧠 AI & Third-Party Services
We use third-party services to enhance the Cake Budget experience:
- Plaid: for securely importing financial transactions.
- OpenAI: for generating anonymized budgeting insights.
- Stripe: for secure payment processing.
- PostHog: for product analytics and feature control.
- Sentry: for error and bug monitoring.
- Render: for hosting our web app.
We anonymize your data before sending it to AI providers.

6. Intellectual Property
Cake Budget and all related content, trademarks, branding, and software are owned by Cake Budget, LLC or its licensors. You may not use, reproduce, or modify our assets without permission.
7. Changes to the Service or Terms
We may modify these Terms at any time. When we do, we will update the “Effective Date” above. Continued use of Cake Budget after changes means you accept the new Terms.
8. Account Suspension or Termination
We may suspend or terminate your account at our discretion if you violate these Terms or misuse the Service. You may delete your account at any time.
9. Disclaimer & Limitation of Liability
Cake Budget is provided “as-is” and “as available.” We make no guarantees regarding:
- Availability or uptime
- Accuracy of AI insights or budgeting advice
- Suitability for specific financial goals
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Cake Budget is not liable for any loss, damage, or misuse resulting from use of the Service.
10. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Delaware.
